PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE
Generations is an ongoing portrait project which Till Janz has been working on for over two years, and which will be released in its entirety in 2022. The project will involve exactly 122 portraits of different individuals reflecting the wide diversity of contemporary culture.
The images are concerned with exploring the idea of age and identity in the context of fashion, social media, and new technology and the impact they have on self perception.
The project itself is about time and its development and its impact on individuals in their life. The most obvious unit of time for an individual is a year and we measure life in terms of years going by.
Therefore the project will have a total of 122 individuals who will be photographed 3 times each with variation in style and setting, which gives a total of 366 images linking to one year.
Each portrait is made of 3 individual photographs which are then digitally manipulated and meticulously crafted to represent the past, the present and the future of the individual in the series. Wallpaper magazine has been showcasing the genesis piece of the series in the September 2021 issue, which is available as an NFT on Superrare, depicting a portrait of the artist himself. This NFT comes with a unique physical art print using lenticular technology, which makes the image come alive.

The Generations project in a wider sense stands for intergenerational exchange, support of each other and the belief in technology and decentralisation as an opportunity to support future generations.
Therefore Till donates 10% of the primary sale revenue to Save the Children charity which aims to improve the lives of children through better education, health care, and economic opportunities, as well as providing emergency aid in natural disasters, war, and other conflicts.

Each collector of a Generations NFT on the primary market will also receive a unique Generations Token within a week after the NFT purchase. This token can be redeemed until the 12/31/2022 for a handmade, museums quality lenticular print in A2, worth 8,000£, signed by the artist, delivered in a custom made fabric container and an NFC chip embedded into the artwork, that gives access to an authentication certificate and a small surprise.
The unique aspect of a lenticular print is that depending on the viewing angle it can showcase different images. This is achieved by a complex printing technology on a material that is coated with microscopic optical lenses which creates different perspectives within one print.
This lenticular print, creates the illusion of a living digital artwork whilst being in analogue form and therefore bridges my practise as an artist living in the real and digital world. This medium stems from memories of my childhood and how excited I got, when I first saw lenticular postcards which were kind of a novelty back in the day and now bringing them into the future by combining new and old processes and the past, with the present, and the future.
However for collectors who prefer to only keep the NFT without the physical piece,
